Review:
So I was told, right before I started this book, that it was much different than the first two. I went into it not knowing what I was about to experience.

By the time the 2nd book ended, I no longer trusted Kells, who worked at Horizons Treatment Facility. She had proven to be untrustworthy and when book 3 starts, almost immediately, I remember why I don’t trust her.

“Pain is just a feeling and feelings aren’t real.”
That quote stands out to me big time now, since I finished the book. Given everything that happens in this final book, that quote is really more of a manipulative statement that borders on foreshadowing. When I first read it, though, I got angry. Angry that someone would imply essentially, that pain wasn’t real.

Kells further proves her jerkiness by telling Mara that she can’t be fixed, she can’t be helped. No matter what Kells does for her, she is helpless. Kells mentions that she has spent years trying to help patients like Mara, but the significance of that statement wasn’t clear to me until I kept reading and learned more about Kells’ past.

I don’t think I even mentioned Jamie in my review of the first two books, but I quickly grew to love him in this book. He was a great friend and super funny to boot. Jamie’s response to swimming to a boat was priceless.

“Not it. Sharks, first of all, and second of all, sharks.”

Perfect response, and it’s a response that I myself would have had in the same situation. I don’t do sharks. Neither does Jamie, apparently.

We get more Stella too, which excited me. I enjoyed getting to know her better throughout this book. We find out what exactly are Stella’s powers when she is held captive by a man who has made his intentions to rape & kill her very obvious. That scene was incredibly intense, and I found myself biting my nails while reading.

I loved watching Stella and Mara talk about girly things like periods and tampons in front of Jamie. He made it so clear that the conversation was not enjoyable to him. Poor guy wanted to put the kibosh on it ASAP.

As uncomfortable as Jamie was with the period talk, he was perfectly fine with discussing sex. I’m guessing that’s just a guy thing, but anyway, he wanted to know if Mara wanted to have sex with Noah, and if she did, why hadn’t she done it with him. This is where Mara confesses that she’s afraid of hurting him. Not emotionally, but physically.

As this book continues, we learn Kells has a connection to both Jude and Claire. A connection I never saw coming. This connection stopped me dead, and I had a minor freak-out for about 5 minutes before I calmed myself down enough to keep reading. We also learned the truth about what happened that night at the asylum. Did Mara actually kill them, or was it someone else?

While all this is going on, we’re also seeing flashbacks to what happened previously to make everything happen in the present time. We learn more and more about what happened to Mara’s grandmother, and we find out what her role in all this was.

In the present time, we learn who else was a part of this crazy scheme and I cannot say that I was surprised by who it was. I had suspected it for awhile, even before I grasped the full truth of what craziness was actually happening. Up until this point I wasn’t sure what was going on or who else was involved.

It was words from Noah’s mother that actually hit me the most. She had some glorious words of wisdom that practically knocked me off my feet. Words that I think are important to all of us.

“Do not find peace. Find passion. Find something you want to die for more than something you want to live for.”

Mara also had some very interesting quotes that I thought were important to remember.

“The choices you make will change you.”

She chose to love Noah. Love is a choice, and despite knowing what she was and what he was, she chose him anyway. Choosing Noah before had already changed her, and choosing him again, would change her again.

There really wasn’t enough Noah in this book which was definitely a disappointment. I had fallen in love with Noah in book one and I had never stopped rooting for him and for Mara to be able to work it out despite all the odds.

“I love you. Today. Tonight. Tomorrow. Forever. If I were to live a thousand years, I’d belong to you for all of them. If I were to live a thousand lives, I’d want to make you mine for each one.”

I didn’t love this book as much as I loved the previous books. I wanted more with Mara’s family, particularly her mom. So much was made about the connection between Mara and her grandmother. I couldn’t imagine keeping such a secret from my own daughter. It was difficult for me to understand that part. I will give this book 4 stars, as it was enjoyable, and I did enjoy how everything unraveled.

Review:
It’s been no secret that I’ve been obsessed with this series since I first started it in March. It’s addicting like chocolate. Except chocolate doesn’t make you wait for three books to see what happens and who is the last one left standing.

This book was the best book of the series for multiple reasons. There was even more about how the world worked, there was a lot more with Queen Amberly & King Clarkson, there was some great moments between the final four girls. It felt like Cass really went for it in the final book. No, not everything was tied up in a neat bow, BUT I didn’t mind. I was okay with there still being a few loose strings.

America comes to a decision in this book and it was definitely difficult to watch her at times. She played keep away with her heart. She knew how she felt, but the idea of telling Maxon was difficult. Maxon was also playing hot and cold with her at times, but I think that came from not wanting to put himself all in without knowing how she felt about him. It also didn’t help that King Clarkson was very against America

America pulled a couple of stunts that infuriated the king, he made it very clear on multiple occasions that America was not the one, forgetting of course that it was Maxon’s choice who he wanted. King Clarkson was a very controlling, strong-willed and often quite cruel to his own son. I was hoping that The Elite would be the extent of his controlling, domineering attitude, but unfortunately, I was wrong.

Finally, I started to like Aspen a whole lot better. Definitely disappointed that it took so long for me to like him, but glad that it happened at all. Aspen’s got secrets of his own, and honestly, I suspected what the secret was early on, but it wasn’t until the end that my suspicions were confirmed. He did some great things for America and Maxon, including one thing at the very end that I thought was fitting.

There was more on the politics as things became quite dangerous in the palace. Yet, I wasn’t bored. I actually found it to be very fascinating. I always wanted to know what was going on and who was behind all this and why. I’m definitely glad we got answers about this part. I would have been bummed if we did not.

I was thrilled with how things went with the final 4 girls. Things you never expected to happen, happen. Alliances changed in startling ways, so serious kudos to Cass for that. I love when unexpected things happen, it adds more intrigue to the story.

Fantastic ending to the series and this will be getting 5 stars from me. Like I said earlier, I found it to be the best book of the series. The entire series was addicting and I am so gonna miss this series.

Juliette now knows she may be the only one who can stop the Reestablishment. But to take them down, she’ll need the help of the one person she never thought she could trust: Warner. And as they work together, Juliette will discover that everything she thought she knew – about Warner, her abilities, and even Adam – was wrong.

Disclaimer: This book was a Valentine’s Day present from my mom.

Review:
Now that’s how you end a series. Holy moly this book was filled with action and adventure and romance. It held one of my favorite opposite sex friendships of all time. There really needs to be more opposite sex friendships like Juliette and Kenji’s. There truly isn’t enough of them in the YA world. As much as I loved Kenji in Unravel Me, his comedic timing was impeccable and even more amazing in Ignite Me. He really needs his own series (Make it happen people)

“Maybe your lady bits are scientifically confused.”

“First Adam. Now Warner. Next week you are going to try to hook up with me.”

“Switch spots with me, J. He’s making me feel all goose bumpy and shit, like maybe, he’s about to knife me.”

I mean those are just a sampling of the comedic genius that Kenji is throughout this book. He ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire series. Tahereh wrote a perfect opposite sex friendship. I am one of those people who totally believes that people of opposite sexes can be just friends. Juliette and Kenji’s friendship is a perfect illustration of that.

Juliette has done a ton of changing over these three books. When we met her she was scared and she felt weak. By the time Ignite Me comes around and throughout the book, she is not afraid anymore. She fights for what she wants and what she feels is right. She has friends now which is something she didn’t have at the beginning of the trilogy.

Oh Adam, you really pissed me off in this book. I understand his dislike of Warner (even though I don’t agree with it) but he needed to stop being a jackass. Even Kenji got annoyed with him which tells you something right there. I truly think Adam wanted Juliette to stay naive and quiet and non-confrontational. He liked being Juliette’s protector and savior.

Now Warner treated Juliette with respect and like she was his equal which I loved seeing. All her life Juliette had been shunned and here comes powerful Warner who saw her, not as a frail woman in need of protection, but as an equal.

Oh boy Tahereh knows how to write steamy scenes. Wowee, chapter 55 was hotter than chapter 62 of Unravel Me. I never even though that was possible but damn Tahereh, you surprised me. This author knows how to write dynamite steamy scenes. I only wish I had that talent. I try to write steamy scenes and they turn out horribly. Like I’m trying too hard to force it. But chapter 55 was hot and the chemistry leapt off of the pages.

The only complaint that I could conceivably have is with the ending. It felt just a little bit rushed. I was not bothered by that enough to change my rating of the book. The book was still amazing and it took me through a range of emotions that left me in tears by the end of it. All of the loose ends are tied up which really made me happy as I have read books that ended with some loose strings. So this conclusion to the trilogy will be getting 5 stars. If you haven’t read the series, then you need to fix that ASAP.

Christina
I love Andrés so much, more than anyone I’ve ever loved before, yet there are days when I don’t know if I want to scream, swear, or fall to pieces. We’re trying to plan a future together, but our families won’t leave us alone. What’s worse is I can see Andrés is not happy.

They say love trumps all hurdles, but some days I wonder will “our” love trump “our” hurdles? Then I look into Andrés’s sensual smile and passionate gaze and I fall in love all over again.

Andrés
When I told Christina I would love her forever, I meant every word. The nightmares are back, and I don’t know how to stop them, but I have to be strong for her. This pressure from my family and my job feels like a noose around my neck, but I will do whatever it takes to give Christina the life she deserves. She’s everything to me, and I won’t lose her.

Review:
Very rarely can I say that a series actually gets markedly worse. I felt like screaming half of the time at these characters. Authors it really is possible to write about a man who is close to his family but who also realizes that its OKAY to do his own thing. In the first two books, Andres and Christina were hot and I was really rooting for them to overcome everything that had tried to tear them apart.

This book changed that majorly. Christina returned to her doormat status which really frustrated me and Andres self esteem plummeted. Both sides of the family were deciding on things without even checking on what the bride and groom wanted. Now that doesn’t sound too out of the ordinary but when Christina doesn’t put her foot down, suddenly she’s meeting with The Cobra’s best friend who is going to coordinate the wedding, Andres aunt is insistent on her daughter Marie being a bridesmaid even though Marie and Christina hate each other.Christina is saying over and over “I don’t want this” but she’s not saying it to people and certainly NOT authoritatively.

Then we have Andres who is miserable at his job but feels a sense of family duty to stay there since his Tio & Tia took him in when his mother died. Yet, privately Andres yearns to persue his passion and become a chef. He’s so focused on making Christina happy that he doesn’t realize that if he’s not happy Christina will never be happy.

And therin lies another issue I have with Christina. Her happiness is tied to a man. That should NEVER happen. A person needs to be happy on their own before they get coupled up. She also needs to find something that’s just hers and not tied up with Andres.

I was happy to see that Karri made an appearance as did her son. I was not expecting to see Karri at all in this book. Plus Grace and her girlfriend had substantial parts in it which made me happy. Seeing that Christina did have friends outside of Andres.

I was happy with the ending and I was happily surprised to see the epilogue. I wasn’t sure if we’d get one so it was a nice surprise to see it.It definitely did not feel rushed to me.

This book was easily the weakest of the three. Both main characters took major steps backwards which really bummed me out. That’s the main reason I have to give this book 3 stars.

My Reaction
OMG, I cannot WAIT! Is it February yet? Oh please let February 4th come fast. I am dying to read this book and I don’t know how much longer I can wait without losing my marbles. Actually forget that, I’ve lost my marbles a LONG time ago. But really, there are SO many ways this could end. Juliette could end up with Adam, or Warner or no one. She could end up being killed off just like a certain other female character who was recently killed off in a shocking ending to the trilogy.

After Unravel Me, I fell in love with Warner which was weird and funny at the same time. In Shatter Me, I thought he was a creepy dude who gave me the serious heebie jeebies. I adored Adam in Shatter Me. But Unravel Me changed that in a big way. I cannot wait to see where Tahereh Mafi takes these characters in the final book of the trilogy.

So what book are you waiting for?

He’s a hardened actor now, famous in the eyes of the world, but tortured in his own. He doesn’t care about much of anything, except for losing himself in the roles that he plays.

She’s like a bird with a broken wing-strong yet fragile, as she tries to float through life, finding acceptance in the arms of random guys, one after the other… to fill the void that her father left in her.

Until she meets Dominic.

Review:
Courtney Cole is a goddess, I have read both If You Stay and If You Leave and I have loved them both. So I was excited to find out that Before We Fall was Jacey’s story. Jacey deserved something good to happen to her after the events of If You leave.

Jacey was a player in both of those books, but more so in If You Leave since it was her brother Gabe and Maddy’s story. She always seemed like a good person but one with an edge to her. Maybe it was her crappy childhood, maybe it was her poor choice in romantic partners or maybe it was a combination of both.I always liked her as she reminded me a bit of myself a couple of years ago.I never dealt with the absence of paternal love in the way that she did, but her messed up family definitely reminded me of my own.

To be honest, through about 65% of the book I disliked Dominic intensely.I thought he was an asshole and I was worried that Jacey was falling into her old habits. Except Dominic was a bit more adventurous sexually than even Jacey was. Dominic pushed people away so that they didn’t have to deal with him and his damaged self. However a life like he had is very lonely and girls and sex can only fill the void so much.

Most people will say that the turning point came at the end when Dominic’s, Sin’s and Cris’s secrets all came to light. Yet, I think it was Dominic and Jacey’s trip to the Grand Canyon that changed everything.

When we finally learn about the woman Dominic loved previously, I felt like someone punched me in the stomach. I broke up with someone who’s girlfriend had died 3 years previously. It was all in my head but I was convinced that I wouldn’t measure up to how he had felt about her. They had been talking marriage and everything so they were just as, if not more serious than Dominic and Emma had been. I give Jacey a whole lot of credit for not being totally threatened by the memory of Emma. I wish I had had that strength. Jacey was definitely stronger than I was in that respect.

In the first two books, I didn’t mind the proposals but I just thought this one was too rushed. I was a little annoyed that they wouldn’t take it slower. I mean, no Jacey and Dominic didn’t strike me as being  the type to take it slow but proposing a month after all the secrets were out in the open was just a little much for me. However, the epilogue was my favorite part.

Unlike the first two, I didn’t cry at all. It brought the feels but in a much more understated way. I’m glad I wasn’t sitting on my bed, sobbing violently this time. It wasn’t my favorite of the series (that honor still goes to If You Leave) but I ended up understanding Dominic and Jacey more than I expected to.

This book will be getting 4 stars. Mostly it’s because Dominic was an asshole through about 2/3’ds of it.However, I will still read basically anything that Courtney Cole writes because she knows how to write characters that her readers can relate to.

Review:
I swear I didn’t plan to have Katie McGarry’s books reviewed all in a row on my blog. It just happened like that. Over the past few days I have reviewed both Pushing The Limits and Dare You To. I had heard that Crash Into You was amazing so after I binge read the first two books in the series, I went to my e-ARC of Crash Into You. I was excited to read Isaiah’s story as he had been a major player in the first two books.
Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I was hoping to.I found Isaiah to be controlling and while some might call it protective, I saw a young man who hadn’t been able to control much in his life and lo and behold comes Rachel. She is young, naive and in my opinion, a doormat.
Rachel’s family dynamics were interesting. After a family tragedy happened before Rachel was born she must now step in and be the daughter and sister that her parents and brothers lost. Her willingness to do this infuriated me. She just agreed to whatever her parents wanted. If it had to do with the daughter they lost, Rachel bent over backwards. She should have just been herself and made them deal with it. Instead, her parents (well mostly her mom) leaves a shrine to the lost daughter and sister and Rachel allows her parents to decorate her room in a color she hates, she accompanies her mom to the malls and she reads her mom’s fashion magazines.
Personally, I would not have stood for it. I would have shut it down a long time ago. I was really kind of pissed that it took a guy for Rachel to stand up to her parents. Her self-esteem had been shot down while she dealt with the panic attacks but it’s only Isaiah who is able to raise her self-esteem. I’m sorry but seriously? Where is the confident, self assured woman that Rachel should have blossomed into?
Isaiah bugged me too. However I did like the story with his mom. I had wondered what had happened to land his butt in foster care and it was really interesting to see him come face to face with his mom. Yet I finished that part of the book a little unsatisfied. It felt like this story could have continued just a little more.
All the car stuff really bored me. Big time. I am not a car person, so I got bored preeeety quickly. The one thing that came out of the car thing was Abby. I loooooved Abby. She seemed like a softer version of Beth (who I also love) I loved the friendship that developed between Abby and Rachel.
I loved seeing Ryan, Beth, Echo and Noah again too. It was good to see that they played their parts in this book. The scenes near the end with Beth and Isaiah were perfectly written and I may have let a few tears fall. I loved how Ryan’s friend Logan played a big part in this book. Watching the friendship grow between Isaiah and Logan was totally awesome.
Let’s get to the romance part of the story. I didn’t feel the same chemistry with Isaiah and Rachel that I felt with Noah & Echo, Beth & Ryan. I didn’t root for the couple at all. And no it’s not because I was secretly dreaming that Isaiah and Beth would come to their senses because it wasn’t. Beth clearly chose right with Ryan.
I think a lot of it had to do with the insta-love as well as the cheesy nicknames that Isaiah called her. Angel, really? It was almost as cheesy as Noah’s Siren talk in Pushing The Limits. The only reason that Noah’s nicknames for Echo didn’t bug me was because the back-stories for Noah and Echo were super strong.
The ending was pretty good and it raised the rating a half star. It was scary and no one knew what was going to happen. I love how all of the couple’s friends came together to help. It showed that friendship is a very strong theme in this book which I love.Friendships are very often underrated and not given the attention that they deserve. Katie McGarry changes that in her books, which is awesome.
It kills me to give this one 3.5 stars but I have to. It wasn’t as strong as the previous two were and Rachel & Isaiah drove me bananas.Plus I didn’t feel the chemistry between them. However i am excited to read the next book in the series which is West’s story.

Review:

Okay so it turns out that the “spoiler” that I had heard about was false. THANK GOODNESS. I don’t know how angry I would have been if it turned out to be true. The spoiler I was fed was that the whole thing was a dream. That would have been a major cop-out on Roth’s part and many, MANY people would have likely been angry with her.

Allegiant was not my favorite book of the series (actually Insurgent was) However there was some good things in this book. The dual POV was awesome, very few authors can do it and get it right. Roth for the most part was able to do it. I loved how we got to learn more about Four.

Having the dual POV definitely helped in that case. Yes some of the revelations seemed to be coming at an awfully convenient time but truthfully we hadn’t learned a whole lot about Four’s past (aside from his father being abusive and Four ditching Abegnation for Dauntless on the day of his Choosing Ceremony etc) We got to see a more vulnerable Four this time around which I loved. In the past we hadn’t seen much of his vulnerability but in Allegiant we did.

Most of Tris’s POV, I loved. There were a few parts in there that drove me crazy in a negative way, but I loved that she talked a lot with Caleb. Family had always been a big thing to her and it continued to be all the way through Allegiant.

The science-y stuff was really far-fetched to me and it made me cringe. A lot. I totally called the connection between David and Tris’s mom. It was totally 100% clear to me from the beginning. I liked Christina and Uriah together and I had hoped that more would be explored with that friendship. I think Roth could have delved a bit more into that.

I commend Roth for doing what she did. I know she’s got a lot of angry people but it was gutsy as heck to kill off Tris. A week ago I would have put money on it being Four who dies. I was actually pleased that she took such a different route than most authors of dystopians take. Normally they save the leading male and female characters. Not Roth. She went for the jugular and killed off a girl who was stubborn and who did what was right and knew what was wrong. Tris was loyal to her friends and Four.

Yes some secondary characters were killed. One in particular gutted me like a fish. It didn’t hurt quite as bad as Tris’s death did, but it was close. Really close.I still don’t hold this series up to the likes of the Harry Potter series (nothing will ever come that close for me) However, there were deaths in this book that hurt, that caused me to get those feels in an otherwise pretty bland book.

Despite all of this, I have to give it 3 stars. It was okay, though some parts were better than others. Do I think Roth could have done better? Absolutely. But she took risks with this final book and some of those risks paid off and some of them did not.

Melanie crumples under the pressure and buries her pain. Numbed by sadness and guilt, she is determined never to let anyone find out how broken she really is. Bryan Mahoney may appear to have everything in order. He’s charming, witty and completely swoon-worthy. In short, Bryan has life all figured out, but appearances can be deceiving. When the landscape of Bryan’s family changes in an instant, he’s left to pick up the pieces. Not all bruises leave a mark. Now, weary and afraid, Melanie and Bryan must find a way to let love heal their broken and jaded hearts.

Review:

Oh man, I really enjoyed this book which is surprising as I don’t usually gravitate towards NA Romance and in fact have had pretty poor experiences with NA all around lately. But this book started a shift in me. Now i’m still not going to love most NA Romances. However I saw a lot of myself and my own insecurities in Melanie, so she was an easily relateable character which made me really happy. The majority of the insecurities that Melanie had, were ones that I either had at one time or even still have.

Now normally I’d love Bryan’s back-story as I love a guy who’s a little damaged. But for some reason he fell flat for me. He was wonderful to Melanie which I loved but there was just something missing. After thinking about it, I still cannot put my finger on it. Maybe it’s the simple fact that, although I could have connected with Bryan, I just didn’t. Yet, I would not mind having a Bryan for a boyfriend. He was basically the perfect boyfriend.

I wish I had read books 1 & 2 first. I didn’t even realize it was the third book in a series until I started reading it. Yet it wasn’t needed. Let Love Heal can be read and enjoyed as a standalone.

I will be giving it four stars. I really enjoyed the book overall. Loved Melanie, but just could not connect with Bryan.Melissa Collins has definitely began to restore my faith in NA Romance.

Meet the AuthorMelissa Collins 2I’ve always been an avid reader. Majoring in English Literature was a no brainer. Becoming a teacher and instilling my love for reading into my students was also a no brainer. I’ve spent the last ten years teaching and I’ve loved (mostly) every minute of it. When I was home on maternity leave for my third son, I discovered a new genre that sparked my creativity. My passion for writing sprang from my love of reading and once I knew I had a story to tell, I couldn’t wait to get it out there. I only hope that my readers enjoy reading my story as much as I enjoyed writing it.
